Join us on Thursday, August 12th in welcoming Great Divide Brewing Company to David Copperfield's House of Beer. Founded in 1994 by Brian Dunn in Denver, Colorado, Great Divide was one of only four microbreweries in the city. By 2007, there were over 90 microbreweries in the state of Colorado, second only to California. Three months after brewing its first batch of beer, Great Divide Brewing Co. won the first of the brewery's twelve Great American Beer Festival awards as well as four World Beer Cup awards. To add to this amazing accomplishment, Great Divide was also ranked by RateBeer.com as the 23rd best brewery in the world with three of the world's top 100 beers. In December 2008, Beer Advocate magazine ranked them as the seventh best brewery on the planet. Amber Ales: Amber ales are light to medium bodied and can be anywhere from light copper to light brown in hue. Typically amber ales are quite malty but not heavily caramelized in flavor.

Bitter: An English specialty generally denoting the standard ale--the "session" beer --in a English brewers range. They are characterized by a fruitiness, light to medium body and an accent on hop aromas more than hop bitters. Colors range from golden to copper. Despite the name they are not particularly bitter. A fuller bodied bitter is labeled as "Extra Special Bitter" (ESB).

English Style Brown Ale: These medium-bodied reddish-brown beers are malt accented with a nutty character, a gentle fruitiness, and low bitterness. Alcohol is moderate, a maximum of 5%ABV.

India Pale Ale (IPA): India Pale Ales are deep gold to amber in color, and are usually characterized by floral hop aromas and a distinctive hop bitterness on the finish.

Pale Ale: Pale ales tend to be fuller-bodied with a more assertive character on the palate the standard bitter in a English brewer’s portfolio. Despite the name, pale ales are not pale but, in fact, more of an amber hue.
