Rogue's Brewmaster, John Maier, at Hop Devil
Grill Saturday, September 30th!
No doubt, there are are a lot of beery good things happening
in both NYC and in Denver, Colorado this October. Perhaps
the hottest thing happenning, however, is that the reclusive
genius behind the great beer flowing from the Rogue Brewery
out of Newport, Oregon, Mr. John Maier, is making a rare visit
to the NYC area this weekend. There is a lot of brewing going
on around the world, and some of the beers being made are
fantastic. It is however, not difficult for this author to
assert that John is among the very best of brewers worldwide.
For those of you who know Dead Guy Ale, Brutal Bitter and
Chocolate Stout, and have fallen in love with them like I
have, you know the substance of what I am writing here and
Rogue's relative importance to the craft beer movement. Many
of you have had the opportunity to sample beers made with
Juniper berries and real chocolate oil, married with hops
to perfection, as well as the release of John's Locker Stock
series, limited release brews like Love and Hoppiness and
Glen. We await the new ones earnestly every month. Here is
a chance to meet the great man himself, and to try an extra
special cask conditioned ale in addition to five other great
Rogue Artisnal Ales. Not to be missed.

Oh Captain! My Captain!
June 29th at 6 PM (tomorrow night!)
Our ship has come in! Scott Vaccaro, award winning brewer
and founder of the Captain Lawrence Brewing Co. is sailing
into David Copperfield's extraordinary home for beers harboring
several decidedly tasty brews. These are not stow-a-ways,
but very welcome guests indeed. A gravity poured cask-conditioned
Double IPA, made special for this event will be on the bar.
Scott says its totally different from the Captain's Reserve
Double IPA that will be pouring from the keg on a standard
tap, so don't miss this opportunity to compare! Also St. Vincents
Dubbel, totally different and highly hopped, Freschester Pale
ale and Pleasantville Smoked Porter. If you haven't yet, here

Medieval Night
Thursday, June 15th at 7 PM
Hop Devil Grill is going to get Medieval on ya! The pic on
the right is one of medieval era brewers, 'cause back in those
days women did most of the brewing.
Now of course, its rare that we find a female brewer like
Carol Stoudt. The great thing is that more and more
women are discovering how great beer is, and more are taking
up the craft of brewing again. So ladies, and gents, get your
collective selves over to the Hop Devil Grill and see
what Middle Ages Brewery hath wrought for us.: On tap we have
the Wailing Wench, the Impaled Pale Ale, the
Duke of Winship Porter and (drumroll please), both
the 10th and 11th Anniversary Brews!

Grateful Dead Mondays
You love the Grateful Dead. Admit it. That kind of sixties
psychedelic blues is timeless too. Think about it: The Dead
have spawned a whole intergenerational fanhood known as "Dead
Heads". We are proudly amongst them, and we'll be showcasing
Dead and Deadish sounds, both live and taped Monday Nights
at the Hop Devil Grill. And if you think that was all
before your time remember: You are never too young or too
old to be a Dead Head.

American Beer Month
Ya know, the beer world keeps getting broader and better.
More people are discussing what types of food go with what
types of beer, how beer can be a healthy part of your diet
and how pleasant it is to sit in your regular pub with friends
drinking better and better beer. This can all be attributed
to the folks at the breweries, who, against all odds really,
went after their passions and introduced something new to
many of us Americans. A lot of these people were touring Europe
after college, hippies or whatever, and they visited small
breweries in England, Germany and Belgium. Some guys came
back and started homebrewing with a vengeance. Others went
to one of several Univesities like UC Davis that have a special
brewing department and went on to distinguished careers.
Its American BeerM onth, next month, July. Whereever
you are, whatever beer you are drinking, raise a glass to
these men and women who brought great taste back to beer in
America. In October, go to Brewtopia,
a heck of a big and fun beer festival at the Jacob Javits
Convention Center. If you ever wanted to meet the brewers
and learn about beer, that'll be the place.

6/6/6 Night of The
Beast
Why make a big deal of this night? Why the devil not?
We can go to the Hop Devil and have a blast on the night of
the beast drinking beastly good beers. And think of it the
possiblilities: 6 tacos for $6 on the 6th
day of the month! And good tacos too.
Rogue of Newport, Oregon, at least to us is arguably the best
brewer of American style beers in the county. Unique and beautiful,
just about anything crafted by the brewing hands of John Maier
is bound to blow you away. On 6/6/06 you will find
Juniper Ale, made with real Juniper berries. It is
the personal favorite pale ale of the author of this post.
There is also I2PA, otherwise known as Rogue Imperial
India Pale Ale. We also have Love and Hoppiness on
tap, something new, different and delightful. Finally, for
you literature mavens, we have the Shakespeare Stout. To
be, or not to be, totally delicious? To be. To night! And
if that isn't enough for you, Penthouse Magazine called Shakespeare
Stout "liquid gold". They are so lascivious. Hop Devils.

Pomme de Lindemans
au début à Grand Pomme
06/08/06 7:00 PM till late night!
No doubt some of you saw Eric Asimov's piece titled "Lambics:
Beer Gone Wild" on lambic beers in the New York Times
a couple of weeks ago. These are beers that are spontaneously
fermented by wild, airborne yeast strains and range from sweet
to very tart. Some are quite complex, and some are very fruity.
Introducing on tap in the Belgian Room, Pomme (apple) lambic
by a very old and successful Belgian Brewery Lindemans. Importer
representatives will be on hand with hats, t-shirts, etc.
You can't go wrong even if it is only 06/08/06. Also on tap
will be other delicious and fascinating Belgian brews.
